About us

Play with a Purpose Nursery School was established many years ago as a nursery school with play at the heart of the curriculum. It was taken on by the current owner in August 1999 and has evolved and grown over that period. Our approaches to playing and learning have changed over the years as we grow and learn about new approaches and philosophies. We believe it is important for us to keep our knowledge and practice current however, our belief that play is how children best learn, is still very much at the centre of our philosophy.

The classrooms are set up into learning centres where the children may play and explore freely. Typical centers include: painting, drawing, building blocks or other construction equipment, puzzles and manipulatives, book corner, sensory materials such as sand and water, playdough,a book corner for looking at books independently or in small groups and imaginative play in the home corner or with small world toys.
The activities and materials offered in each class will be developmentally appropriate for that age group.
The teachers devote their time to observing and guiding the children in small group activities and going where needed e.g helping with a puzzle or construction, reading a story or helping with problem solving skills.
During the course of the morning the children will have a healthy snack that they bring from home.
They will also have a play outdoors in our play area where there are lots of opportunities to move, climb, dig, explore nature, play imaginatively and creatively.
The morning is finished off with a story time in their classroom.
Children staying on for the lunch program, bring a packed lunch from home and spend the afternoon in their classroom and the outdoor play area.
Staff
We have at least one member of staff in each class who is a qualified teacher, or has a degree in Child Development. As a school we take part in regular professional development and strive to keep our knowledge and practice current. All teachers are CPR and First Aid qualified, SCARS certified and registered with the Child Care Regulation Program.
Parents
At Play with a Purpose parents are an important part of our program and we want them to feel welcome in the school. Parents are able to park and walk their child into school each day. We have an open door policy and parents are welcome at anytime, whether it is to join us for music time, help in the classroom or read a story at the end of the day.
